Keep Dancing

Recently, I had a vision that I haven’t been able to forget.
I walked into the most beautiful place. A few people were with me, and before us stood a magnificent building filled with windows. Engraved into every window was a cross, and sunlight poured through them, filling the room with light.
Then I saw two beautiful people dancing.
I was mesmerized.
One was leading, and the other was following. There was such beauty in the way they moved together—almost effortless. The follower didn’t need to know what step was coming next. They simply kept their eyes on the one leading and followed.
And all around them, sunlight streamed through the crosses.
They were dancing in the light of the Cross.
Then, for just a moment, the follower looked away.
When they looked back, they realized they had fallen out of rhythm. They had to quicken their steps to catch up with the lead dancer.
The leader hadn’t changed.
The dance hadn’t stopped.
The light was still shining.
The follower had simply looked away.
The next day, something happened that could have easily pulled my attention back toward an old hurt. And suddenly, I understood what the vision was showing me.
Keep your eyes on Jesus.
Isn’t it amazing how quickly people can steal our focus?
Someone hurts us, and we replay it.
Someone misunderstands us, and we want to explain ourselves.
Someone rejects us, and we wonder why.
Someone applauds us, and we begin noticing who’s watching.
Whether criticism or praise, both can cause us to turn our heads away from the One we’re supposed to be following.
Hebrews 12:2 tells us to be “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
I’m learning there are things I may never understand about people—and I don’t have to.
I don’t have to stop the dance every time someone misunderstands me.
I don’t have to defend myself every time someone has an opinion about me.
I don’t have to chase acceptance, approval, recognition, or vindication.
I can forgive.
I can release.
I can love.
And I can keep dancing.
Maybe that’s a word for you today too.
Don’t allow someone else’s behavior to make you miss your next step with God.
Don’t let rejection determine your rhythm.
Don’t let offense become your focus.
Don’t let applause become your light.
Stay in the light of the Cross and keep your eyes on Jesus.
And if you’ve looked away for a moment, there is something beautiful about the vision I don’t want you to miss:
The dance wasn’t over.
The follower simply turned back toward the leader and found the rhythm again.
Friend, you haven’t ruined the dance because you became distracted.
Just look back at Jesus.
Take His hand.
You don’t need to know every step that’s coming. You only need to trust the One who is leading.
When He moves, follow.
When He says wait, wait.
When He says forgive, forgive.
When He says release it, let it go.
And when something tries to turn your head again—
keep your eyes on Jesus.
Perhaps the beauty of the dance was never about the dancers at all.
Perhaps it was about the One leading, the trust of the one following, and the beautiful light of the Cross surrounding them both.
Stay in His light.Follow His lead. And keep dancing.
Love,
Tricia
