Stay the Course: Your Assignment Is Bigger Than You

As I sat in my quiet time this morning, coffee in hand and my Bible open, the Lord reminded me of something He has spoken to my heart many times over the years—the importance of His assignments.

Not our plans.

Not our ambitions.

His assignments.

Those opportunities He gives us to serve His people, share His truth, and bring hope to hurting hearts.

Recently, I completed my fourth book and had the opportunity to share its message on a podcast. The purpose was simple: to encourage those who have experienced deep hurt and disappointment from people they loved and trusted.

Some of the story I shared was born from church hurt, but the book was never written about any one person, nor was it ultimately about me. It was written to point people to the faithfulness of God and the life-changing truth that what feels like rejection may actually be God’s redirection.

God showed me that I wasn’t rejected—I was redirected.

What the enemy meant for harm, God used for good.

As believers, we must understand that whenever we step out to obey God and answer His assignment, opposition often follows.

This isn’t new.

It happened when I wrote my first book, Road to Bethel. It has happened in ministry. It has happened in leadership. And it has happened again with this book.

Over the years, I’ve learned something important:

Please hear me. When you step out to answer your assignment, the enemy will use people, places, and things to discourage you. Stay the course.

The enemy knows the power of obedience. He knows the impact your testimony can have on someone else’s healing. He understands that your “yes” to God could become someone else’s breakthrough.

That’s why he often uses misunderstandings, criticism, distractions, and even well-meaning people to try to discourage us from moving forward.

The Apostle Paul understood this well. He wrote:

“A great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.”

— 1 Corinthians 16:9 (NKJV)

Notice that the opposition didn’t mean the door wasn’t from God. In fact, sometimes opposition is confirmation that you’re walking through the very door God opened.

When criticism comes, remember who called you.

Remember who assigned you.

Remember who sent you.

God never called us to please everyone. He called us to obey Him.

Galatians 1:10 reminds us:

“For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

The reality is that assignments from God are rarely comfortable. They require courage. They require faith. They require us to keep moving even when we don’t fully understand the response we receive.

Jesus Himself experienced rejection. Many misunderstood His words, questioned His motives, and opposed His ministry. Yet He remained focused on His Father’s assignment.

As followers of Christ, we are called to do the same.

When the enemy whispers, “Quit,” God says, “Keep going.”

When discouragement says, “No one understands,” God says, “I understand.”

When criticism says, “Sit down,” God says, “Rise up.”

Isaiah 54:17 offers this powerful promise:

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord.

Friend, if you are carrying an assignment from God, don’t allow the opinions of others to derail what God has called you to do.

Stay the course.

Write the book.

Start the ministry.

Share the testimony.

Launch the Bible study.

Pray for the people.

Serve faithfully.

Love well.

Trust God with the results.

The assignment was never about building your platform. It was always about building His Kingdom.

And when you remain faithful, God promises to be your defender.

Exodus 14:14 declares:

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

You don’t have to defend yourself every time someone misunderstands you. You don’t have to explain every detail of your journey. You don’t have to win every argument.

God is fully capable of protecting His purpose in your life.

So today, rise up and remember who you are.

You are not a victim of circumstances.

You are not defined by criticism.

You are not limited by opposition.

You are a warrior for the Kingdom of God.

Walk boldly in your assignment.

Trust God’s timing.

Keep your eyes on Jesus.

And know that the God who called you is faithful to complete the work He began in you.

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

— Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)

Today’s Prayer

Father, thank You for the assignments You place before us. Help us to remain faithful when opposition comes and steadfast when discouragement tries to take root. Remind us that our purpose comes from You and that You alone are our defender. Give us courage to continue walking in obedience, trusting that You will use every step for Your glory and for the good of those You have called us to serve. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
