What Is God Calling You to Do?

Your Assignment May Be Your Greatest Gift

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, “Lord, what is my assignment in this season of life?”

I believe God gives each of us assignments. Some bring great joy, while others require sacrifice, courage, and faith to trust Him when life doesn’t make sense.

Today, I interviewed a precious young woman whose story touched my heart deeply.

Just three years after marrying the love of her life, Michael, they received news no young couple ever dreams of hearing.

Michael had cancer.

They were supposed to be building their life together, dreaming about their future, and growing old side by side. Instead, they found themselves facing a battle neither one had ever imagined.

As I listened to her share their journey, I couldn’t help but think about the assignment God had entrusted to her.

Her assignment was Michael.

To love him through the hardest days of his life. To be his rock when he was weak, his prayer warrior when fear crept in, and his encourager when the road seemed impossible.

To stand beside him, holding on to God’s promises, believing and praying for healing.

And that’s exactly what she did.

She didn’t walk away when life became difficult. She stayed. She loved. She prayed. She believed.

And when the healing they had prayed for didn’t come on this side of heaven, she was still there, loving Michael until he took his very last breath.

Oh, how that touched my heart.

His healing didn’t come the way they had hoped, but she found peace knowing he was now whole and healed in the presence of Jesus.

Was she angry with God at times? Yes. Did she struggle to understand why? Of course.

But what stood out to me most was that even in her heartbreak, she continued to trust God.

She understood her assignment wasn’t to control the outcome. It was to love Michael faithfully through the journey.

And she did.

What a beautiful picture of love, sacrifice, faith, and obedience.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)

What Is Your Assignment?

Maybe your assignment looks completely different.

Maybe it’s being a stay-at-home mom, pouring your heart into raising your babies to know and love Jesus.

Maybe it’s caring for aging parents, loving them and making every moment count.

Maybe it’s being a faithful wife, encouraging and praying for your husband.

Maybe it’s being a grandparent, leaving a legacy of faith for the next generation.

Maybe it’s walking alongside a friend through a difficult season.

Maybe it’s serving in your church or community, often behind the scenes.

Maybe it’s stepping out in faith to do something God has placed on your heart, even when nobody else understands or cheers you on.

Or maybe it’s simply being available when God places someone in your path who needs encouragement, a prayer, or a listening ear.

Whatever your assignment, never underestimate its importance in God’s kingdom.

One of my assignments right now is caring for my sweet daddy.

Seven months ago, my precious mama went home to be with Jesus. And now, I have the privilege of loving and caring for Daddy in this season of his life.

Some days aren’t easy, but I’m learning to treasure these moments. Because one day, I’ll wish for just one more ordinary day with him.

See the Gift in Your Assignment

Can I encourage you today?

Say YES to the assignment God has placed before you.

Even when it’s difficult.

Even when it requires sacrifice.

Even when nobody notices.

And ask God to help you see your assignment as a gift instead of a duty.

Ask Him to fill your heart with joy and gratitude, knowing He has entrusted you with an opportunity to love and serve others.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve begun to recognize divine appointments more clearly. I see the people God places in my path differently. I see opportunities to encourage, pray, love, and serve as precious gifts.

But recently, God revealed something to my heart that brought everything into focus.

My assignment from the very beginning has been to serve Him and His people.

It’s never been about me.

Not about recognition, applause, or what I might gain. It’s about being His hands and feet, loving the people He places in my path, and being willing to say yes when He calls.

The assignments may change with the seasons of life, but my purpose remains the same: to love God, serve Him, and love His people.

And what freedom there is in understanding that!

I don’t have to have a platform, a title, or the approval of others. I simply need a willing heart.

“By love serve one another.” — Galatians 5:13 (KJV)

The older I get, the more I understand that serving God and others is truly one of the greatest gifts of all.

My prayer is that God opens your eyes to recognize the assignments He has placed before you. That He fills your heart with joy instead of obligation, gratitude instead of frustration, and a willingness to say YES, even when the road isn’t easy.

Because sometimes God’s greatest assignments aren’t about what we accomplish.

They’re about the people He allows us to love along the way.

And when our earthly assignments are finished, may we hear those beautiful words:

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:21 (KJV)

So let me ask you today: What assignment has God entrusted to YOU in this season of life? And are you willing to say YES?

Love,

Tricia
