Saying No Until God Says Yes: A Heart Posture for 2026

God has been gently and faithfully working in my heart as I seek Him for His plans for 2026. This season has felt less about doing more and more about listening deeper. I’ve been asking Him not only where He wants me to serve, but where He wants me to rest, to be present, and to trust Him with my “no.”
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
— Proverbs 3:5–6
Learning the Holy Pause
A dear friend shared something with me recently that has stayed in my spirit. We were talking about how easy it is to say yes, especially when we love Jesus and want to serve Him well. But she said something so simple and yet so profound:
Pause. Pray. Sit with the Father before you say yes.
That pause is sacred. It creates space for God to speak, to guide, and to align our hearts with His will.
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
— Psalm 46:10
Stillness isn’t weakness. It’s trust.
When Good Intentions Need God’s Direction
I was deeply moved by a story shared by Ministry with Coffee. She spoke openly about a season where she was serving everywhere and everyone in the church. Her love for Jesus was sincere, and with her husband employed by the church, they were both constantly giving of themselves.
But in that season of faithful service, something precious was quietly being neglected, their children.
God lovingly revealed to her that it was time to stop saying yes automatically. He whispered, “Sit with Me first. If I confirm it’s a yes, then it’s My plan for you.”
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”
— Psalm 127:1
Even good things can pull us away if they’re not God-things.
A Gentle Invitation for 2026
Can I gently encourage you to do the same?
Let 2026 be a year led by the Holy Spirit, not by pressure, guilt, or the fear of disappointing others. Let God confirm where you are meant to serve, and if it’s not Him, may you find peace in saying no.
Jesus Himself modeled this for us. He withdrew to pray. He didn’t meet every demand. He followed the Father’s voice, even when others didn’t understand.
“Very early in the morning… Jesus went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”
— Mark 1:35
Job or Joy?
A friend asked me a question that pierced my heart in the best way:
Is what you’re doing for the Lord a job, or does it bring you JOY?
Just one letter different, but such a meaningful difference.
Serving the Lord will cost us something, it always does. But it should never cost us our joy, our peace, or our intimacy with Him.
“Serve the Lord with gladness.”
— Psalm 100:2
“For God loves a cheerful giver.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:7
Walking Forward with Intention
I’m challenging myself, and inviting you, to be more intentional in 2026. God longs to give His children the desires of their hearts when those desires are rooted in Him.
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
— Psalm 37:4
Dying to ourselves for Him should lead us closer to His heart, not farther from it. When our yes is surrendered, Spirit-led, and filled with love, it brings life, to us and to those around us.
May we serve with the right heart, for Him and for His Kingdom.
With love,
Tricia
