Living for Today — One Day at a Time

There was a time in my life when I lived either behind me or ahead of me.
Behind me, replaying mistakes, wishing I had done things differently.
Ahead of me, chasing dreams, praying for doors to open, anxiously waiting for “the day” everything would finally fall into place.
But somewhere along the way, God began teaching me something softer… something steadier.
He reminded me of this:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34
Tomorrow has its own set of events.
And yesterday? It’s gone.
We cannot relive it. We cannot fix it. We cannot go back and rewrite it.
All we truly have is today.
What Is God Asking of You Today?
Not next year.
Not when the opportunity shows up.
Not when the finances line up.
Not when the dream finally becomes visible.
Just… today.
Sometimes we get so focused on the promise that we forget the present. We strain our eyes looking toward the horizon while God is whispering, “Stay with Me here.”
I struggled with this for years.
I heard the phrases:
First things first.
Let go and let God.
One day at a time.
They sounded good. Encouraging. But I didn’t fully live them.
As I’ve grown older, those words have become less of a slogan and more of a lifeline.
Stop Chasing. Start Resting.
This part was the hardest for me.
When God puts a dream or desire in your heart, it’s exciting. It feels holy. It feels purposeful. And naturally, we want to run toward it.
But I’ve learned something humbling:
Worrying about it doesn’t speed up God.
Waiting anxiously doesn’t move His hand faster.
Begging for today to be “the day” doesn’t change His timing.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalms 46:10
If He called you to it, He will make a way.
Not because you stressed enough.
Not because you tried hard enough.
But because He is faithful.
And sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is rest.
Rest in the waiting.
Rest in the unknown.
Rest in the unfolding.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11
In His time.
A Gentle Challenge
So today, can I gently challenge us, myself included?
Live and let live.
Let go and let God.
One day at a time.
When anxiety about tomorrow creeps in, bring your heart back to today.
When regret from yesterday whispers, remind yourself it no longer holds you.
God is already in your tomorrow.
He was present in your yesterday.
But He is walking with you right now.
And that is enough.
If He planted the dream, He will water it.
If He gave the vision, He will provide provision.
If He called you, He will equip you.
You don’t have to force it.
Just be faithful today.
Breathe.
Trust.
Take the next small step.
God will be faithful.
He will make a way.
With love,
Tricia
