When Faith Hurts: Trusting God in a Job Season

Today, I found myself drawn deeply into the book of Job. Every time I read this story, it feels just as powerful, just as raw, and just as personal as the first time.
Job’s life was blessed in every way. He loved God wholeheartedly and placed Him first above all else. Scripture tells us that Job was “blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil” (Job 1:1). He did everything right—yet the unimaginable still happened.
God allowed Satan to test Job, with only one restriction: his life was to be spared. In a short time, Job lost his wealth, his children, his health, and eventually even the understanding and compassion of those closest to him. His pain was so deep that he cursed the day he was born. He was crushed in spirit and exhausted in soul.
And yet—this is where the story grips my heart—Job never turned his back on God.
Even when his friends accused him, telling him he must have sinned, that pride or secret disobedience was the cause of his suffering, Job refused to abandon his faith. Though confused and broken, he continued to seek the Lord.
“Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him” (Job 13:15).
Job didn’t understand the “why,” but he trusted the Who.
He questioned. He wept. He poured out his anguish honestly before God—but he never stopped believing that God was good. He continued to worship even when his world no longer made sense.
“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21).
Scripture never tells us how long Job’s suffering lasted. Days? Months? Years? But we do know this: God was faithful. In His perfect timing, the Lord restored Job and blessed him with double what he had lost.
“The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part” (Job 42:12).
That is who our God is—good, loving, and faithful, even when we can’t see it in the moment.
Maybe you’ve walked through a season like Job. Or maybe you’re in one right now. A season where everything feels stripped away. Where prayers seem unanswered. Where accusations, misunderstandings, or loss weigh heavy on your heart.
If that’s you, can I encourage you today?
Pass the test.
No matter who or what comes against you, keep your eyes fixed on the Lord. Worship Him in the confusion. Praise Him in the pain. Trust Him even when the answers don’t come.
“We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him” (Romans 8:28).
I share this not just from Scripture, but from experience. I’ve lived through “Job seasons” more than once in my journey—one season where I truly lost everything. And yet, God proved Himself faithful every single time. He restored more than I could have ever imagined or hoped for.
“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine…” (Ephesians 3:20).
If He did it for Job, and if He’s done it for me, He can—and will—do it for you.
Hold on. Keep trusting. Keep worshiping.
God is not finished yet.
Love,
Tricia
