Chasing Titles or Serving Jesus?

ree

I recently sat down with a young man over coffee to talk about ministry. He’s just beginning his journey, yet the wisdom he carried honestly humbled me. Sometimes God uses the newer voices to remind us of truths we’ve started to overlook.

I’m in a season where God has placed a dream inside my heart—a desire and an assignment—to equip His daughters to answer their unique calling. For some, that calling is raising babies and stewarding a home. For others, it’s walking faithfully as a wife, leading in corporate, working outside the home, or stepping boldly into full-time ministry.

No matter the calling, my deepest longing is that women step into what God created them for.

But on this journey, something has concerned me more and more. It’s the very thing this young man spoke about: titles, positions, and status.

I’ve watched so many chase after them… and I say that with honesty, because I once did too. I had a wonderful corporate career, yet the pursuit of recognition can subtly take us away from the heart of God.

When we begin climbing ladders and chasing influence, we risk losing what matters most: our identity in Christ.

In Matthew 23:8, Jesus told His disciples not to let people call them Rabbi—a title of honor. He wasn’t correcting respect; He was protecting identity.

And then He gave us the Kingdom’s upside-down truth:

In heaven, the servant holds the highest rank.

As I now serve in ministry—mentoring women, speaking, listening, and sharing God’s stories—the Lord continues to show me something beautiful:

You don’t have to chase a title.

You don’t have to grasp for position.

You don’t have to seek fame, recognition, or favor from man.

Just keep your eyes on Jesus.

Ask Him for your daily assignments.

Follow His leading.

And He will open doors that no man can shut.

Let’s remain Kingdom-minded—serving God first and loving others well—so that one day, we will hear the most precious words:

“Well done, My good and faithful servant.”

Do you see it?

He calls us servant—not king, not CEO, not executive, not doctor, not any title this world celebrates.

Just servant.

And that is the highest honor.

Love,

Tricia
